Sam – Leisure Club Manager
I am the manager here at Kinsale Hotel and Spa’s Leisure Club. Loving my job would be an understatement. I take massive pride in our talented team. Keeping up with quality standards is very important to me and is definitely a big part of my role here. Our Leisure Club has surpassed its exceeded Ireland Active quality standard and has reached outstanding the past two years consecutively. This is a massive achievement for our club and would not have been possible without every effort from each team member. These are the milestones I love to see and I am happy to be a part of.
The first qualification I obtained was equestrian studies, I really enjoyed this course but after some careful thought I decided that I wanted to branch more into the fitness industry. After qualifying as a gym instructor and personal trainer I worked in MTU doing gym supervision, running classes for lecturers and students. Although I loved working at MTU and enjoyed being a part of their team, I am so grateful to be able to work closer to home and closer to my family. Kinsale Hotel & Spa has a fast pace environment, we have lots of members, guests and pupils in to keep each day fresh and exciting, no day is the same and I love that.
I have a passion for sports, health and fitness. I began my career here nearly 2 years ago as Assistant Manager and Personal Trainer. Though I am still a gym instructor, I am now also a plant room operator, ensuring the smooth and safe operations of our pool. I enjoy starting people on their fitness journey and watching them grow and gain confidence in the gym and in themselves. I absolutely love customer service. Being from Kinsale myself I know some great spots and absolutely love filling in our guests on our stunning little town.
Running swim camps and classes is also a very big part of my job here, brainstorming ideas and working closely with our Swim Coordinator’s Brian and Micaela to make the plans materialise is always challenging but rewarding work. We love the kids coming in here and we try our best to keep them all laughing and smiling through the term.
When I am off duty, I love horse-riding at Garretstown Beach, taking my dogs for a trip to Killarney, boxing, and mainly spending time with my family in Kinsale.
